Meet Katy – Higher Orbits Summer Intern!

Hi everyone!

My name is Katy Thompson and I would like to introduce myself as your friendly neighborhood college student and new Higher Orbits intern. I am both excited and grateful to work with Higher Orbits and I would like to share a few things about myself.

To start, I am a senior communications major at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. My pursuit of a collegiate softball career in 2015 led me to Embry-Riddle, and I have since embraced the aerospace and aviation atmosphere. Admittedly, after three years of being on campus, I have yet to grow tired of watching the planes takeoff and land through the window of any building. Some other notable highlights of life on campus include the occasional fly over from the Thunderbirds and the rocket launch views from Cape Canaveral. From news writing and technical writing to PR plans and visual design work, I am always pushed at Embry-Riddle to expand my knowledge and find my voice in the aerospace and aviation fields.

I have been a part of Embry-Riddle’s softball program for almost four years. Being a part of a team has taught me valuable skills and provided me with some of the best memories. It has also been an amazing experience to be able to share a goal with my teammates and have the opportunity to accomplish it together.

Along with school and softball, I also like to find time for my hobbies. I truly believe that just being outside is one of the best places you can be. If not for mother nature’s regularly scheduled afternoon thunderstorms (which I still can appreciate while inside), I would probably try to hike, kayak, or fish almost every day. As a South Florida native, I never cease to be awe-inspired by the natural beauty we have across the state.

I am incredibly excited for this opportunity to work with such an amazing organization and even more excited to be a part of the Higher Orbits Community!
